Trip Leader Helle Sorensen:


Helle Sorensen is a citizen of Denmark who received her MA in Anthropology from the University of Colorado of Denver and her BA in Geography from Metropolitan State University of Denver. Helle Sorensen is a Professor of Tourism Management with a specialty in ecotourism and sustainable tourism. She designs, manages, and leads study-abroad trips for the department to four continents. Her tourism experience extends well beyond the classroom. She has worked for many years in various capacities in international travel agencies in three countries. She has expanded her experience in the international tourism industry with several international certifications from British Airways and Continental Airlines. She is the author of two books: International Travel and Tourism (Delmar Publishers) and International Air Fares (South-Western Publishing Company). She has also authored one chapter: Cozumel, The Challenges of Cruise Tourism for the book Cruise Tourism: Issues, Impacts, Cases. She became a Wilderness First Responder in June 2011. This certification qualifies her how to recognize, treat, and prevent emergencies in the backcountry. Other experiences and skills include speaking four languages, performing the duties of an Assistant Manager, issuing international airline tickets for round-the-world itineraries, processing international fare constructions for corporate clients, and implementing creative tourism planning.
